141. Slow down

Instant coffee, instant mac and cheese, instant delivery, instant messaging, instant you name it.

In a world where faster is better, did we ever stop to think does that thought process go with everything?

Figuring out a way to stop someone from bleeding out…

The faster the better

But what about being productive, producing lasting change and real results

That’s good, the problem lies when our faster turns to busy vs staying productive.

Faster may not always be better.

Here’s what I mean told via story

John and Adam lived in the village and both received exclusive contracts to supply the village with water.

John received the contract, immediately went home to grab two buckets and started hauling the water into the village well which is a distance traveled of 1 mile each way for him.

He would do this ritual 8 hours a day, running, filling, pouring. Mile after Mile.

For the first few months – Adam was nowhere to be found, and John was raking in all the profit.

Where was Adam?

Adam did something different, he received the contract and immediately started to build a team. Engineers, construction workers, legal counsel  – building a business plan on how to get the most water in the least amount of time from the lake to the village well.

After two months of going back and forth on ideas, they finally came up with something: build a pipe from one to the other, this way the village can have water 24/7.

This idea came to fruition over the course of the next 6 months.

John tried to compete by running water back and forth for up to 20 hours a day. He even tried to hire his sons so the business could be a 24/7 service.

Machine out did man though and John ended up burning out due to exhaustion.

The point?

Work smarter not harder

Take it easy and slow, be light, be intentional

Slow down to speed up.

What do you think?
