488. Who’s in control here?

It’s not only the goals of wealth and position that control us, but also the desire for peace, leisure, travel, learning…

Is wanting these things bad? No, that’s how we strive for things.

But we can’t deny the fact that empty, constant, burning desire is fraught with complications.

Because what we desire – it makes us vulnerable.

If we want to travel the world, be president or financially free or five minutes of quiet…

It’s hoping against hope. We set ourselves up for disappointment because life happens and what happens if we lose our self-control in response to life?

Wanting nothing makes us invincible – because then, nothing lies outside of what we can actually control

It’s a double-edged sword

Because we can want nothing and still strive towards something,

It’s not being indifferent, it’s enjoying the process – the present moment.

So when it comes to the things we strive for, are we in control of them or are they in control of me?

Big difference and one I’m still trying to figure out.
