1024. What we can’t change

we can’t change the fact that our food is taking forever, even if we freak out and yell at the server

we can’t change the fact that we just got rear-ended, name-calling won’t fix the car or the flow of traffic.

we can’t make our kids like us or that stranger love us.

the funny thing is, we can only do one thing at a time. We complain that our kids don’t like us when we could be nurturing the relationship like a farmer with their land.

Ever hear the AA prayer? “Grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

I can’t change the fact that my parents passed away when I was 12.

You can’t change the fact that your stepdad raped you when you were 12

or that they cut themselves, or bullied, others, whatever the case may be

but we must remember that our past does not equal our future.

because we have the power of the present moment. And we can use our actions through the present moment to change our future realities

That happens with each and every decision we make every second throughout the day.

People who focus on things they can’t control (which is most things) have a cop-out to fall back on.

People who focus on things they can control (which is very little) will get a lot more results, with a lot less stress – a life worth living.
