1108. Fight Camp

Fight camp is “used to prepare for a fight – MMA, boxing, bjj, etc. A fighter usually goes through a training camp which will be 8 to 10 weeks long. In the weeks leading up to the fight the fighter will go through rigorous training to work on strength, conditioning, cardio, and skills.”

Ultra runners have a fight camp too. How long is your training block?

At first, the training block may be 6 months – 24 weeks – long. This is a slow build-up and not as rigorous in the beginning as it is towards the end.

Once you have your running base (only you can decide that) You don’t really need a 6-month build.

You can go into the fight camp mentality and just get to fucking work.

I have Swammie 200 on February 25, 2024, and I started my “rigorous” camp 7 weeks before the race (I was sick week 8).

So here’s an update: I’m feeling super strong with no aches or pains.

Completed:

  • 1/7 week 1: 54 miles / 10.5 hrs
  • 1/13 Week 2: 75 miles / 13 hrs

Planning for the weeks to come:

  • Week 3 85
  • Week 4 95
  • Week 5 105
  • Week 6 80
  • Race week taking that whole week light with a mile per day.

Let’s get to work.
