1263. traveling riff, tidbits and thoughts

Travel improves yourself and your life.

It gives time to research, unplug, maybe it’s for a job

Or does it?

How often do people go on vacation, only to do the same thing they do at home – watch tv, gossip, complain, worry – just at a different part in the world – “bringing ruins to ruins.”

Is that really the point?

Getting intoxicated on the highs of sights and suggestions, only to let them fall by the way side?

Who cares about penny pitching, trying to squeeze as many landmarks into a single day – that’s all pointless when we focus on the things that really matter.

Travel isn’t an escape. It’s apart of life, not better or worse. If alls you look forward to is that vacation away from everyday life, then change everyday life.

Changing scenery because we want too vs have too is a big difference.

Will this trip actually help me?

Live life in interesting places.

Here are some random tidbits of travel for me to remember, resources I’ve come across my journey :

  • Pack light, and then go lighter.
  • Pick one or two or three things to do and go all in. Deep not wide.
  • Don’t feel obligated to do anything or see the things everyone says you have to do
  • Long cardio days to explore an area
  • Stay where your feet are, pictures only do so much justice. Take them and don’t obsess over them. It’s cool to take the same picture in each stop.
  • Read books (include nonfiction)
  • Eat healthy and stay active
  • Avoid “guidebooks” and ask the barista for some cool actives to do in the city. Look for space that has seen some shit like Gettysburg in PA. There something about standing on land where something traumatic happened.
  • Come up and stick with a schedule. Workout, work, lunch and activities, wrap the day up.
  • Keep it weird
  • Read markers posted up throughout an area
  • Don’t talk about the trip to others and don’t spend months planning. Just go.
  • In a museum or something; Pretend you’re a thief looking for points of weakness or vulnerability. It flips the script on just walking around.
  • USA is a cool country. Every region is unique.
