Power of positive thinking, a book for the ages.
It was written over 70 years ago and still applies to us today. The biggest lesson for me:
Our thoughts influence reality. Our mindset shapes our experiences and outcomes. It really is all about attitude, even more so than what the facts say.
4 principles
- Self-talk matters – How we speak to ourselves impacts our confidence and capabilities
- Reframing challenges – Viewing obstacles as opportunities for growth, while learning from everything.
- Gratitude – we can choose what to focus on, the good or the bad. Focusing on what’s good builds resilience and wellbeing
- Visualization – Mental rehearsal of what we want to happen supports us in accomplishing our goal. We need to know what we want and trust the process. God speed. Believing in ourselves while taking action. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but those Roman’s laid brick everyday.
5 Prompts
1. The day
- What am I looking forward to today?
- What’s one thing I’m grateful for right now?
- How can I make today great?
2. Facing challenges:
- What can I learn from this situation?
- How might this obstacle make me stronger?
- What opportunities could this challenge create?
- What went well? What didn’t? What am I going to do differently?
3. Get better at self talk:
- What would I say to a friend in my situation?
- How can I rephrase my negative thoughts more constructively?
- What past wins do I have of my capabilities or me overcoming something?
4. Closing out the day:
- What went well today?
- What small wins can I celebrate?
- How did I handle challenges?
5. Planning:
- What am I excited about in the coming days/weeks?
- How am I growing and improving?
- What positive changes am I working toward?
