Why clutter your mind with useless knowledge?
useless meaning knowledge that isn’t important to our line of work or what we are currently doing in the moment.
who cares about the facts of the war of 1812, maybe it’s important to know the reason of the war, but the nitty gritty?
Okay, it was between the USA and UK, but who cares that the UK blocked the ports this way, or they took over the capital
Yeah, they’re important, it makes for a good story, and we can look them up whenever we need to, but committing them to memory? A waste of time.
Just like the stats of a football player
- Eric Dickerson rushed for 2100 yards in 1984, a record still standing today
- Calvin Johnson received for 2000 yards in 2012
- Peyton Manning passed for 5500 yards in 2013
or the viewpoints of other people.
- Trump opposes abortion but wants to leave it up to each state
- Kamala wants to legalize abortion across the land
- Trump this
- Kamala that
Of course, it’s important to gather these facts and hear people out, and making our own decisions, but committing them to memory? Who cares
The point of all this, our mental real estate is precious, and there is only so much of it. Why clutter it with nonsense when we can fill it with useful knowledge to whatever endeavors we are doing in the moment?
