1478. Time and material

Doing it once, that’s part of the contract – the deal

Doing it again? That’s gonna cost ya

The job I’m on, the project manager is rushing everyone and now things are getting done before they are suppose to

For example the insulation is getting put put up and then covered with plywood before the electric is even ran. We brought this up to the project manager and he pretty much said figure it out.

So we cut the plywood with a saw (slowing us down) and then ripped the insulation out so we can run the wire.

Well, the insulation guys aren’t going to be replacing that, that’s not part of the deal.

Now the project manager is going to have to shell out more money to get this insulation and plywood repaired.

The point is – If he would’ve taken a few minutes to plan and reflected and reviewed his plan instead of just rushing everyone , he wouldn’t be double backing tracking, ultimately slowing the project up even more. Whose fault is it if the project isn’t completed on time?

His. Maybe the timeline was too short, maybe he was as efficient or effective as he could be.

The best part is, he’s going to blame the contractors for his mistakes. That’s how it usually goes, it takes a strong person to stand up for themselves, own their mistakes , and speak up to the boss when things are unrealistic, don’t make sense, etc instead of being a yes man.
