1573. Habits, Routines, Ruts

Habits are interesting because it’s what we do without even thinking: scrolling on social media, double checking we locked the door, biting nails – the list goes on. We can choose our habits but some (a lot) of them we developed unconsciously over time. It takes time to build habits.

Routines are interesting because it’s how we operate: morning routines, night routines, work routines. Of course, this list goes on too. We can choose our routines, and some routines are more effective then others. Our habits play a big role in this whole routine thing. Scrolling social media first thing in the morning vs getting a workout in ends up at totally different places down the line.

Ruts happen when we stagnant. We keep our same routine or habits and never question them. Ruts can be good because it can force change. They can be bad because we think something’s wrong with us or we don’t change

And that’s the point. Change is inevitable. Are we going to change for better or worse though?

That’s something we can control
