Everyone is unique
And some things apply to some people
Like someone who lives pay check to pay check with credit card debt and kids vs someone who’s debt free, building wealth, and doesn’t want kids
Because a real job pays the bills and builds the life you want
And different jobs are….
Believe it or not
Different
Different hours, types of work, sacrifices
It’s like the smallest (or biggest) present under the tree could be the best present, or the worst
A rock, a precious diamond, an empty box or a g-wagon
Most people would rather the diamond over the empty box, and the g-wagon over the rock
Benefits and pensions are great, if you need them
But what if you don’t need them?
What if flexibility is more important? Not to society, but to that individual
Let’s riff on individuals
- Do we need external validation? Or is internal knowing our empowering angle?
- Sometimes we do things because we have to, sometimes because we want to, and other times because we feel like that’s what we should do…
- Do we lie to ourselves? Telling ourselves we can make it work when we really know deep down that we hate it?
- We all think differently, and can think about life differently
- Career differently
- Home, how we live, what we live like, what we do with our time
- Risk
- What do you do when you win the money game?
- Know the definitions of words, like responsible (having an obligation to do something)
- Beware of the shiny object effect: just because things look good on paper doesn’t mean that they are. Just because other people are excited doesn’t mean i have to be.
- Most people don’t realize they win the money game.
- Keep good money habits:
- Know what your FIRE number is
- Earn, save, invest, live simply, delay gratification
- It’s not always about maximizing income either
- Most advice people give is from their POV
- Lifestyle by design is often overlooked or ignored
- Make your own decisions , it’s okay to make mistakes
