78. Feynman Technique

Feynman was a wizard in his own right, and his mental model to learn new concepts is what some of the worlds most successful people employ

The main benefit of the Feynman mental model is to bridge gaps of knowledge in 4 steps

  1. Identify the subject – write everything known on topic.
  2. Teach the known items to a ‘child’ – keeping it plain and simple.
  3. Find the knowledge gaps – what’s missing? Find the answer.
  4. Organize thoughts → simplify them → tell a story

Here’s an example from Feyman himself:

“All things are made of atoms – little particles that move around in perpetual motion, attracting each other when they are a little distance apart, but repelling upon being squeezed together”

Here’s my attempt:

In order to build wealth, we first need to make money by exchanging time, product, or service. Then save that money for emergencies and investments. Lastly, invest into our retirement, real estate, and stocks.
